What is MII FHIR profile?

The MII (Medizininformatik-Initiative) profiles are the FHIR profiles defined by the German Medical Informatics Initiative for cross-site research data sharing across university hospitals.

In context

MII profiles cover person, lab, medication, diagnosis, procedure, and other domains relevant to clinical research. They constrain base FHIR resources to a shared structure that participating university hospitals can produce and consume consistently.

MII conformance matters most in German university hospital research. DiGAs and other digital health products typically don't need MII conformance directly but may exchange data with research partners that do.

How Fire Arrow handles it

Fire Arrow stores standard FHIR R4 with profile validation. MII conformance is a profile validation configuration where the relevant integration paths require it.
